Best Single Mom Romance Books to Read

With Mother’s Day coming up, I started read-hopping Single Mom romance books to write this list of my favorites. Happy to say that my reading for blog purposes has made the Single Mom Romance one of the top preferred tropes.

There’s something about the mom and her kids being cared for by the hero who comes into their lives. I love the story of the mom who is strong for her kids and doesn’t let anyone take advantage of them. The growing dynamics between the hero and the kids, the mom, and all of them building a family. It just makes for a wholesome read.

Here are my favorite romance books featuring single moms that are now on my re-read list:

One Percent of You by Michelle Gross

One Percent of You - Michelle Gross

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Available on Kindle Unlimited

This was my first read by Michelle Gross, and I loved every part of this book. Endearing and hilarious, it begins with the main hero stealing a 4-year-old girl’s chips in a store, leading to Elijah and Hadley’s friends to lovers romance.

Elijah is a tattoo artist who has no interest in relationships. When he meets a little girl named Lucy and her mother, Hadley, he becomes intrigued by their family dynamic. Although Elijah has a gruff exterior, he finds himself wanting to get to know Hadley better and help her with Lucy and her newborn son, Eli.

Hadley is cautious after her disastrous experience with her ex. She puts her kids first and is fiercely protective. I loved getting to know her.
I enjoyed every interaction of the characters, the way Elijah fell in love with the family and his character development.

One Percent of You is a wonderful single mom romance read.

Wait for It by Mariana Zapata

Wait for It by Mariana Zapata

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Wait for it by Mariana Zapata was one of those stories that made me wish I could jump into the pages and just be there with the characters.

Diana is a single woman trying to figure out her life – she’s a full-time guardian, mother figure, and fierce protector of her nephews, Josh and Louie. I adored her. She’s the kind of woman who’ll show up, stay strong, and keep going even when things feel impossibly heavy.

And then there’s Dallas. Quiet, broody, and emotionally guarded, he’s the classic Mariana Zapata hero – grumpy with a hidden heart of gold.

Their romance is painfully slow TBH, but of a delicious kind. From awkward neighbor moments to playful banter, to silent, heart-melting gestures, Dallas and Diana’s relationship is a beautiful evolution of trust, friendship, and finally, love.

Another special element is the bond between Diana and her kids. It was heartbreakingly beautiful to read.

P.S. You're Intolerable by Julia Wolf

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Available on Kindle Unlimited

If office romances with a grumpy hero who has this stick up his ass, and emotions are not his language, who falls for the heroine so hard and is all about her, then P.S. You’re Intolerable is another single mom romance you should add to your TBR.

Catherine is Elliot’s PA, and she finds him quite ‘intolerable’. I love their interactions and the P.S. notes she writes in secret. She’s currently single, left broke and alone by her ex, trying to do her best for her child.

Elliot Levy is a moody billionaire and is particular about things happening his way. When he discovers Catherine’s dilapidated house, he takes both Catherine and her girl to his house.

And boy, the slow burn that starts… I was completely in love with Elliot. He is super protective, every instinct he has is to care for the mom and her child and to see this guy in his gentle and caring element was something else.

This is high on my list of recommendations!

Somebody Like You by Carrie Elks

somebody like you by carrie elks

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Available on Kindle Unlimited

Any book that can make me grin, smile, and giggle like a lovesick fool is an automatically extra-star read for me. This was my first time reading Carrie Elks, and I am motivated to read more of hers.

Somebody Like You is a small-town romance featuring an injured football player in search of his personal motivations as he breaks away from his world to live with his family for a while and a single mom – to two kids – who is going through a divorce.

Cam and Mia have this playful, sweet relationship, and I loved how both brought out the best and fun out of one another. I adored how Cam cared for the kids, and never punished Mia for keeping them the priority as she should.

There is also Cam’s family making Mia and her kids a part of them, and the entire thing was a wholesome read.

Meet Me Halfway by Lilian T. James

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Available on Kindle Unlimited

One of the reasons this book is on my top list is it reminded me so much of Wait for It and One Percent of You (both are my ultimates).

Garret Rowe starts off as a jerk to the heroine, making presumptions about her and quite unpleasant. However, Madison never let that get her down and gave as good as she could.

This book is a very realistic portrayal of a struggling single mom, and I loved how resilient and strong Madison was.

Eventually, when Garret got his head out of his ass, he was supportive of Maddie and ensured both her and Jamie were okay with his presence.

It’s an easy, heartwarming read.

Resisting the Boss by Whitney G

Resisting the Boss by Whitney G

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Available on Kindle Unlimited

Part of my list: Books like Fifty Shades of Grey

Another office romance recommendation, this is one is a typical billionaire romance with an uber possessive alpha male and a sassy, strong heroine.

Jonathan Statham is a younger CEO, confident to the point of cocky, and laser-focused on Claire. He’s relentless in the most delicious, heart-racing way. The man is charm, obsession, and smoldering heat all rolled into one. He wants Claire, and he’ll have her.

Claire is strong, composed, and trying her best to keep things professional. She has been through a lot in her past and wants to move on with her life and enjoy all the moments with her kids., She is just not up to tangle with Jonathan, a younger guy and her boss.

Jonathan doesn’t care about rules, and watching him slowly, steadily chip away at Claire’s resistance was such a treat. Their chemistry? Off the charts.

Resisting the Boss is sexy and full of that intense push-and-pull romance that keeps you flipping pages way past bedtime.

The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren

the soulmate equation christina lauren

Genre: Contemporary Romance

This was my ‘I love the cover’ purchase. Although it took me some time to get into this story, I still enjoyed The Soulmate Equation.

Jessica has always been intrigued by ‘Americano’, the guy who visits a coffee place at the exact time, completely oblivious and an asshole (although not purposefully). When she finds out that he has helped build a dating app that evaluates people’s DNA, her friend is very much into her, unlike Jess, who is skeptical about the entire thing.

Things change when a series of event lead her to being the best matched person ever at 98%, and to none other than River (the Americano).

The story is cute, I loved Jess and her daughter Juno, her unique family, and her best friend. A bit too science-y and statistic-y for me, but a pleasant read nonetheless.

Other books I read, that you may want to check out:

  • Just My Luck by Lena Hendrix (A good one-time read but I couldn’t connect with the plot or the characters as much as I wanted to.)

On my TBR:

  • Boarded Hearts by Ruth Stilling
  • My Darling Jane by Ilsa Madden-Mills
